ENTWISTLE HISTORY

The Company can trace its origins back to 1895 when Stephen Troughton opened a gunsmith shop in Alfred Street, Blackpool. The name Entwistle first appears around 1930 when Stephens nephew, Sam Entwistle, took over the business.

Years later Eddie Miller, a former journalist, purchased the business. The business prospered and in 1968 a second shop was opened in Preston's Cattle Market. Mike Mogilnicki was appointed the manager and ran the Preston shop. In 1981 Eddie retired and Mike purchased the Preston business with his wife Margaret. They introduced outdoor clothing to the stock range and the business prospered again leading to a move to larger shop premises on Plungington Road in 2002.

In 2006 Mike was on his annual pilgrimage to the IWA Trade show in Nuremberg and his relationship with Yildiz Shotguns (the Turkish name for 'star') began. The first order was for a huge total of six! On arrival in the UK, the gun's appeal to other dealers quickly became obvious and orders grew and grew. A visit to the factory in Turkey confirmed that this gun manufacturer was one that was capable of becoming a major player in the world shotgun market. There was a huge investment in the latest computer controlled machinery.
Guns of different grades were being turned out in .410, 20 and 12 bores. Skilled engravers put their marks on the higher grade guns and the best Turkish walnut was selected. In 2010 the first over/under .410 was produced and became an instant hit. It won the 'Best New Gun" prize in the Shooting Industry Awards for that year, ahead of a selection of guns which are almost household names.

This .410, available in several versions from junior short stocked up to a Special Luxe model with hand engraved side plates and stunning wood, has become the best seller in the range, closely followed by the 20 bores, the recently added 28 bore and the 12 bores. Yildiz gun sales now exceed 1,500 per year.

In addition to the Yildiz range, Entwistle Guns have developed a significant business in the sale of Humane Slaughter Equipment, second hand shotguns, air guns, ammunition, gun cleaning equipment and a newly sourced Camouflaged Netting product for pigeon shooters.
